3 Reasons To Add Legs To Your Workout

Legs are a very sensitive topic to touch on in the weight room. Leg day is hands down my most draining and intense training day of the week. It literally takes every bit of energy from me. I initially neglected to workout legs for my first 2 years of strength training. Once I noticed my upper body getting bigger, I came to the realization that it was time to do legs. After my first few months of hating legs, I began to love it! Below are 3 big reason why you should add legs to your workout:

More strength and muscle gains. Your legs and back have the most muscle on the body. Many leg exercises make use of compound movements. You’ll utilize other body parts, such as the upper and lower back, arms, and abdominal muscles. Stronger legs can also help you improve or perform better on the bench press, which in turn helps you build more muscle in your chest. To sum it up, working legs improve both your upper and lower body strength at the same time.

Symmetry. Like I stated earlier, once I realized the big gains in my upper body, I knew it was time to hit the lower body just as hard. I can’t stand to see guys with large upper bodies and scrawny little chicken legs. It’s one thing to work hard to maximize your upper body growth, but to let your ego get the best of you and only work biceps, chest, or arms makes zero sense. Men need to hit lower body so their upper body is proportionate to their lower body. For females, this is a perfect opportunity to build those legs and butts. Hitting legs is nothing short of sexy, so go for it!

Increase hormones and testosterone. Training legs produce natural growth hormones which accelerate body growth. It also releases large amounts of testosterone, which will increase lean muscle mass, bone density, sex drive, and help reduce or burn fat.

So ladies and gentlemen, let’s hit those legs with everything we got! The best leg exercises to build strong legs are squats, lunges, leg press, deadlifts, and calf raises!
